So yesterday, I hit a bit of a snag from my week that was going great. I went to a printing lab to print off copies of important documents to use for going to a tax preparation workshop. I had a few concerns prior about doing this, but figured I would be okay with it, just I would have to be aware. The printing lab was not super busy and no one was printing when I hit print. But directly after I did (or more accurately before), someone else did too, and they went up and got their stuff.
I was slightly concerned, but I waited a little while and saw if my printed material came up. No more copies printed. This was the one day that they were not counting pages and separating them (not completely ragging on them), and it was the one day that I printed really important documents. Important as in had my checking account number; routing number; email address in the top corner; and a little preview of the attached documents at the bottom, where I could read my own address.
I am hoping that the individual who picked it up tosses it once he sees that it that it wasn't his (in the document was a clip of a flyer for the actual activity I was going to). But regardless, as soon as that happened, I called my bank and after my class I redid my account and card (I needed a card anyway; my picture was coming off and the red stripe on the back was a silvery-black mess) as well as my information with Human Resources. Its pretty much settled now, and though I am uncomfortable with the information that was on that paper about myself, what can I do now?
I returned to the printing lab and reprinted my information, learning from my mistakes and definitely being more aware. But I would not let it trip me up because 25 pages of free prints a day makes a difference.
But it also is still a great week. I'm staying ahead in things, and I feel accomplished.
